DRY NEEDLING IN PASCOE VALE

Dry needling treatment targeting muscle trigger points at Diverse Myotherapy clinic

Tight, achy muscles that won't release no matter how much you stretch? Dry needling is one of the most effective tools we use at Diverse Myotherapy to switch off stubborn muscle knots and get you moving freely again, right here in Pascoe Vale South.

What is dry needling?

Dry needling is a treatment where a qualified myotherapist inserts very thin, sterile, single-use needles into tight bands of muscle known as "trigger points" (the knots you can often feel). The needle prompts the muscle to twitch and then relax, releasing tension, easing pain, and restoring normal movement. It's called "dry" needling because nothing is injected; the needle itself does the work.

Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?

It uses similar thin needles, but it's not the same thing. Acupuncture comes from traditional Chinese medicine and works along energy "meridians." Dry needling is a modern, Western technique based on muscle and nerve anatomy, we target specific muscles that are causing your pain or restriction. Our therapists are trained specifically in this musculoskeletal approach.

Does it hurt?

Most people are surprised by how little they feel when the needle goes in. When it reaches a trigger point you may feel a quick twitch or a deep ache for a second, a sign it's working. Afterwards some people feel a little muscle soreness, similar to the day after a good workout, which usually settles within 24–48 hours.

What can dry needling help with?

We commonly use dry needling for neck, shoulder and upper-back tension (including desk-and-screen tightness), lower back pain and stiffness, tension headaches, sports injuries and overuse strains, restricted movement, and stubborn "knots" that won't release with massage alone. It's also great for the calf, hamstring and glute tightness that runners and gym-goers know all too well.

Dry needling is rarely used on its own, it's part of a complete myotherapy treatment, alongside hands-on massage and a plan to keep the problem from coming back.

Who shouldn't have dry needling?

It's safe for most people, but it isn't suitable for everyone. Let us know if you're pregnant, take blood-thinning medication, have a bleeding disorder, or have a strong fear of needles, and we'll talk you through your options, there's always another path to feeling better.
